burdened with much serving

Lk 10:38-42 Jesus entered a village where a woman whose name was Martha welcomed him. She had a sister named Mary who SAT BESIDE THE LORD at His feet listening to Him speak. Martha, burdened with much serving, came to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me by myself to do the serving? Tell her to help me.” The Lord said to her in reply, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things. There is need of only one thing. Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.”

"Martha, burdened with much serving," - serving is GOOD, serving is IMPORTANT, and serving is what we are CALLED to do- BUT, we must SERVE THE LORD. The only way we can SERVE THE LORD, is to first, SIT at His feet and LISTEN. We must first have a RELATIONSHIP with God. Service without God is hollow. Service without God can actually be prideful and selfish. How do we know who to serve? We must first ASK and LISTEN to God. How do we know how to serve? We must first ASK and LISTEN to God. How do we know where to serve? We must first ASK and LISTEN to God.

"Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things." Worry is not of God. If our service causes us to be anxious and to worry then our service is about US.

"Mary has chosen the better part and it will not be taken from her.” Prayer- a relationship with God. Prayer- sitting at His feet. That is where service STARTS. Only then will we know Who to serve, Where to serve, and How to serve. Only then will we know that our service is About God and our service is For God.

Today, let us sit at the feet of the Lord and ASK How HE wants us to Serve, Who HE wishes us to Serve and Where HE desire us to Serve. Then, if we LISTEN we will have CHOSEN THE BETTER PART.
