consider, then respond

Mt 2:13-15, 19-23

May we all strive to have the Faith and Trust of St. Joseph; who Pope Benedict XVI called THE JUST MAN.

We know from our Advent readings that "Joseph, her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned to send her away secretly." Mt 1:19

And before acting, he prayed ,"when he had CONSIDERED THIS, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, "Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. Mt 1:20

Today we hear "the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, 'Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt and stay there until I tell you.'"

And he responded ,"Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night and departed for Egypt."

Without hesitation, St. Joseph held nothing back. He gave up everything: his home, his profession, his relatives.

And he obeyed "He stayed there until the death of Herod,...behold, the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt and said, 'Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel'"

And he responded , "He rose, took the child and his mother, and went to the land of Israel."

We hear that "when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea in place of his father Herod, he was afraid to go back there."

St. Joseph did not immediately act, he prayed, and then he responded "because he had been warned in a dream, he departed for the region of Galilee."

We have so much to learn from St. Joseph. May we pray to him, so that we too may:

-recognize the voice of God -consider, then respond -hold nothing back Then we can hope that one day we will be called JUST

Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph, pray for us
