He was praying...they were asleep

Let us pray for the deceased members of our family. Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon them. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Lk 9:28b-36

Jesus took Peter, John, and James and went up the mountain to pray. While He was praying His face changed in appearance and His clothing became dazzling white. And behold, two men were conversing with Him, Moses and Elijah, who appeared in glory and spoke of His exodus that He was going to accomplish in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep, but becoming fully awake, they saw his glory and the two men standing with Him. As they were about to part from Him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” But he did not know what he was saying. While he was still speaking, a cloud came and cast a shadow over them, and they became frightened when they entered the cloud. Then from the cloud came a voice that said, “This is My chosen Son; listen to Him.” After the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. They fell silent and did not at that time tell anyone what they had seen.

-While He was praying ...Peter and his companions had been overcome by sleep The disciples did not spend time in meditation. They lived with Jesus, they walked with Jesus, yet they did not follow His example of prayer.

- But he did not know what he was saying. Matt 6:7 "And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans"

-They fell silent Matt 6:6 "when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father"

Matt 6:9-13 Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Meditate, Pray, Spend time with God.

Then, when He chooses to speak, we will recognize His voice.

St. Patrick, pray for us.
