Lk 16:19-31 Jesus said to the Pharisees,... "Then Abraham said, ‘If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.’”
Did those words stir in their hearts? When they heard the story of Lazarus, from Bethany, being raised from the dead, did they PONDER these words? Where any of them challenged, or had they closed themselves off completely?
How about us? When we read a challenging passage of scripture, or when we hear an uncomfortable homily- do we close ourselves off? Do we put distance between the Word of GOD and our Heart?
Sometimes, in our prayer life, GOD makes us uncomfortable. HE is showing HIS Love. HE is giving us the opportunity to Grow in RELATIONSHIP. HE may be leading us from sin(Hell) to Heaven (HIM).
We all like the comfortable readings/homilies - and Consolation is a Gift from GOD. We also need to like the challenging readings/homilies - They too are a Gift from GOD.
Let us strive to have an INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP with GOD. Let us "listen to Moses and the prophets" - scripture/homilies AND then let us "be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead" - JESUS Suffered, Died and ROSE FROM THE DEAD for us!
